It’s hard to imagine what the surf industry would be like without O’Neill. It all started when a young Jack O'Neill moved to San Francisco in the early 1950s and discovered the cold-water waves off Ocean Beach. It was there that he invented the modern day wetsuit.

Sometime around 1952, Jack opened the first Surf Shop in a garage across the Great Highway. The shop became a local gathering place, and the number of loyal surfers began to grow. By 1980, the surf shop had morphed into a thriving international company. Fast forward to present day: Jack has since stepped down from CEO to pursue his timeless love of surfing, sailing, and working on a variety of environmental projects.
