It was a chance encounter that brought Quiksilver to the US, when in 1976 pro surfer Jeff Hakman caught a glimpse of his future during a contest in Australia. After spotting the perfect boardshorts, Hakman refused to leave until he had secured distribution in the U.S. With the license and magical boardshort recipe in hand, Jeff enlisted surfing friend Bob “Buzz” McKnight to open a small Quiksilver office in Newport Beach, California.

Today, Quiksilver’s roster of athletes and employees reads like a Hall of Fame inductee list.
