Happy Chinese New Year! The Chinese years are characterized by different animals and this year we celebrate the Year of the Monkey. There is a lot to be said about the various animals of Chinese New Year. In fact, the monkey is 9th of 12 animals that recur throughout the Chinese Zodiac calendar. People born during the Year of the Monkey (1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016) are said to be smart, clever and intelligent in resemblance of their zodiac animal. Famous figures born in the Year of the Monkey include Leonardo da Vinci, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Elizabeth Taylor, Celine Dion, Tom Hanks, and Will Smith.

In addition to the zodiac animal, the calendar also rotates according to one of five elements: gold or metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. 2016 is the Year of the Fire Monkey. According to Chinese zodiac traditions, both the animal and the element of your birth year are determinants of your personality and destiny. People born during The Year of the Fire Monkey are ambitious and adventurous, but irritable.

Regardless of your sign, 2016 is a year to take action and create a new path for yourself. This new year is filled with endless possibilities. Even the most ambitious dreams can be achieved, so it’s time to start pushing for them. You must start new endeavors and seek new horizons to make a big change happen. It’s time to go out and get, rather than sit around and wait.

Team S’well will be celebrating the only way we know how…with amazing Chinese food! Mission Chinese is our go to spot for dim sum and Szechuan peppers. But with the cold New York weather, we might grab take out from Han Dynasty and eat it at home with a side of Netflix and 25oz S’well bottle full of wine.

How will you celebrate?
