S’well Becomes a Certified B Corp

Tuesday, March 31st, 2020

With the pandemic at the center of our every thought and action, we are reminded of the global world in which we live and the role we all play in supporting its well-being. S’well has been doing its part since we launched in 2010, helping displace more than 4 billion single-use plastic bottles to date and impacting millions of people’s lives through advocacy and support.

Now, more than ever, our commitment continues.

Today, we are pleased to announce our newly earned B Corporation (B Corp) Certification. While our team may all be working remote, we’re virtually toasting to each other on this important accomplishment. Here’s why:

When our founder, Sarah Kauss, started S’well in 2010, she had one mission: reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles while helping communities in need. That love for the planet and its people has driven our actions since Day One, attracting purpose-driven team members and guiding the way we do business. S’well’s B Corp Certification reaffirms our commitment to being a leader in sustainable living through higher levels of verification tied to environmental and social performance, transparency and accountability.

We’re using our learnings from this incredible process and the amazing B Corp network to evolve the way we approach responsible business for the future and look forward to sharing more updates with you as they happen. In the meantime, take a look below or visit bcorporation.net to learn more about this network of sustainable champions changing the world for good.

What is the B Corp Certification?

B Corp Certification assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. Certified B Corporations achieve a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment — a rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community and environment — and publish their results. B Corp Certification is administered by the non-profit B Lab, that serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

What are B Corps?

These are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified levels of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Who makes up the B Corp community?

The community is made up of more than 3,000 companies across 150 industries and 70 countries, including Patagonia, Seventh Generation, Athleta, Allbirds and now S’well. These organizations are helping inspire tens of thousands of other companies to follow their lead by measuring impact, changing corporate structure and building better businesses.
